PURPOSE:To obtain an inspecting method which makes it possible to clear errors in the lateral direction and the longitudinal advance direction of the position of a sprocket of a TAB tape in the inspection of a pattern of the tape. CONSTITUTION:According to this inspecting method, corresponding image information for one line is compared in respect to a pattern of a tape and a reference pattern. If there is a line being in accord with the total of pattern information of a reference line 21 of a reference tape when a read head is shifted in the longitudinal direction of a line 11 read actually, this is regarded as the original corresponding position being deflected by deflection in the longitudinal direction of a sprocket, the position of the line being in accord is set as a correct position and comparison is restarted from this position. In the case when there is no line being in accord with the total of the pattern information of the reference line 21 when the read head is shifted in the longitudinal direction of a line 11', it is judged that the discord is not caused by an error of deflection in the longitudinal direction of the sprocket, but by the abnormality of the TAB tape pattern itself. |
