PURPOSE:To improve the productivity while enhancing the capacity of a storage battery by using, as the negative electrode of a metal-hydrogen alkaline storage battery, a hydrogen storage alloy of composite phase structure consisting of a Ti-Mo alloy having a specified composition. CONSTITUTION:As the negative electrode of a metal-hydrogen alkaline storage battery is used a hydrogen storage alloy which is an alloy of composite phase structure consisting of three phases: a Ti-Mo alloy phase of crystalline bcc structure represented by the formula (wherein x is 0.2-0.6) as a main phase; a Ti2Ni fcc structure alloy phase; and a TiNi bcc structure alloy phase. This alloy is obtained by quenching and coagulating the alloy from the melted state at a cooling speed of 10<3>K/sec or more followed by annealing at a temperature of the melting temperature or (lower than the melting temperature 500 deg.C). The whole composition is represented by the formulae II, III, wherein A, B each represent specified metals or metalloid elements, and coefficients of (x), (a), (b), (c) each are values within the range of 0.05-0.6. A storage battery using a hydrogen storage alloy electrode capable of reversibly storing and detecting hydrogen at room temperature as a negative electrode is provided. |
