The sleeve is a single sheet of metal which is a press fit in the cavity, and has a cylindrical portion 24 with a conical portion below it. The support may be of plastics or steel, and the sleeve is preferably a thin walled sheet of bronze or bronze alloy. The bearing is made by forming the cavity in the support, inserting the metal sleeve and cold working the sleeve in the cavity with a shaped mandrel so that the sleeve assumes the shape of the cavity.
