A method of manufacturing a pressuresensitive adhesive strip comprises forming a film of plastics in situ on one face of a temporary non-adherent support; coating said film with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive; drying and rolling the composite bond thus formed into a roll, so that said adhesive is applied against the other face of the adjacent turn of the temporary support; unwinding the said rolled band so as to separate the film of plastics material from said temporary support, the adhesion between the temporary support and the film being less than that between the temporary support and the adhesive; and coating that face of said plastics material which had been adjacent the temporary support with a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive. The temporary non-adherent support may comprise a sheet of silicone paper or polyethylene. The film may be transparent and may comprise a coating of cellulose acetate optionally with butyl phthalate or polyvinylchloroacetate, applied as solutions in acetone. Adhesives specified comprise poly-isobutylene and poly (ethyl vinyl ether). |
