1,202,230. Fused electrolyte cells activated by internal pyrotechnic compositions. NORDAVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 6 Oct., 1967 [11 Oct., 1966], No. 45934/67. Heading H1B. An electric cell comprises a metal cathode forming a casing and disposed within the casing an anode spaced therefrom, an electrolyte, a depolarizer in contact with the cathode, and a pyrotechnic composition to melt said electrolyte. In Fig. 2 the casing 1 is of nickel internally goldplated, a depolarizer 3, e.g. of ferric sulphate mixed with electrolyte, held to the cathode by gold-plated nickel grid 2, an electrolyte 6, e.g. of eutectic KCl/LiCl impregnated on glass fibre, an anode 7 e.g. of calcium, and a plate 4 comprising a pyrotechnic composition suitably of Zr (38 wt. per cent), BaCrO 4 (57 wt. per cent) and inert fibres (5 wt. per cent) and advantageously an electrolyte and/or depolarizer in orifices therein or in a surface layer, these amounting to up to 35 wt. per cent and 5 wt. per cent respectively of the pyrotechnic mixture, the plate being fired when required by fuse 5. |
