Each bucket of a bucket excavator is of such a configuration and is so pivotally mounted on and lockable to the rim that it can be swung about the pivot, when unlocked from the rim, to occupy a position, when relocked to the rim, opening forwardly according to which of the two possible directions of rotation of the wheel is required. Each of the locking means associated with the buckets comprises a clamp member pivoted between and lockable by wedge means to a pair of plates extending radially of the wheel. The clamp member has a lip which engages with a lip on the bucket to lock the bucket to the rim. |
