PURPOSE:To improve properties such as toughness and strength of the product surface without dispersing ceramic fibers or particles in the whole base material, to improve also properties of the whole product itself, to enable minimization of the used amount of the ceramic fibers or particles, further to effectively prevent generation of a vertical crack which is the main mode of destruction of a ceramic and to enable improvement of the toughness of the base material itself. CONSTITUTION:In this invented composite ceramic, a modification layer 33 in which one or both of the toughness or the strength are higher than that of the ceramic base material 31 is formed on the surface of the base material. This modification layer is composed of a ceramic matrix and ceramic fibers, a ceramic matrix and ceramic particles or a ceramic matrix, ceramic fibers and ceramic particles. |
