1290151 Klystrons EMI Ltd 30 Dec 1969 [11 Jan 1969] 1759/69 Heading H1D A klystron cavity 5 is tuned by a plunger 10 movable within a sub-cavity 9, which is hermetically sealed by a flexible corrugated diaphragm 18 which joins the sub-cavity wall to the rear of the plunger and is itself shielded from the r.f. field by a second similar diaphragm 20 which is apertured at 21. A U-shaped #/2 ditch choke is formed by the passage between plunger 10 and the sub-cavity wall, by the rear face of the plunger and the diaphragm 20, and by the re-entrant plunger portion 11. Since diaphragm 18 is shielded by diaphragm 20, while the latter is disposed wholly in the evacuated region and suffers a reduced rise of temperature by being situated at and near a current node of the choke, corrosion of the flexible diaphragms is minimized. |
