A roller 2 is attached between two holders 1. A web of material 3 which, in order to lower this web, can be unwound from the roller 2, is wound around the said roller 2. According to the invention, a top covering strip 6 is arranged parallel to the said roller 2, and side cover strips 7 are arranged so that they adjoin the top cover strip and run parallel to the plane of the top cover strip 6 and in the transverse direction with respect to the said top cover strip. When seen from the front, the side cover strips 7 overlap side sections of the said web of material 3. An unwound section of the web 3 adjoins the wound section of the said web on the side of the cover strips 6 and 7. The invention provides a window protection which offers improved protection for the window. A package for assembling and installing a window protection of this nature is also proposed. <IMAGE>
