Mattress or cushion provided with a core and a cover which completely surrounds the core, in which mattress or cushion, according to the invention, the cover 2 is water- vapour-permeable and watertight at least on a top surface of the mattress. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the core of the mattress is composed of three layers of polyether, of which a bottom layer 1c and a middle layer 1b have a density of 43 kg/m3 and a bending resistance of approx. 145 N and approx. 120 N, respectively, and of which a top layer 1a has a density of approx. 50 kg/m3 and a resistance to bending of approx. 90 N, the cover being composed of a PU membrane 2a and a knitted polyester fabric 2b. The invention also relates to a cover which is clearly intended for the cushion and/or the mattress described above. <IMAGE>
