发明名称 GLASS FIBER PROCESSING METHOD USING MAGNETIC ABRASIVE GRAINS
摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of defects and failures in a process for sharpening the tip end of a glass fiber. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical sleeve 2 made of non-magnetic material is coupled in a cup 1 made of magnetic material, a magnet 3 both the ends of which are magnetized to the N or S pole, is coupled in the center hole of the sleeve, and magnetic abrasive grains 5 are distributed along the magnetic flux coming out of the upper end surface of the magnet 3. The tip end section of a glass fiber 6 is inserted into the abrasive grains 5 along the axial line of the cup 1, and let relative motion (rotation or vibration in the vertical direction) take place between the tip end section and the magnetic abrasive grains around the tip end, so that the tip end is sharpened. An electric magnet in which an iron core is coupled in the center hole of its bobbin, may be used in place of the sleeve 2 in which the magnet 3 is coupled. When a plural number of fibers such as a tape fiber cable and the like are processed simultaneously, the first plate of the N pole (or S pole) is faced to the second plate of the S pole (or N pole). The magnetic abrasive grains are interposed between both the poles, an optical fiber is inserted into the magnetic abrasive grains through a plural number of through holes bored in the second plate, so that relative motion thereby takes place.
