PURPOSE:To make a video display inherent in a wide area of configuration of ground by means of the smaller memory capacity and a calculation circuit by separating a memory which stores patterns inherent in the configuration of ground according to the degree of detail and taking the same configuration in spite of the difference of the configuration of ground. CONSTITUTION:In a modulator section 5 inherent in configuration of ground, the texture inherent in the configuration of ground where polygonal surface is formed and having the hierarchical resolution according to the distance from the view point to the topographical surface is stored in a plurality of memories. An address calculation section 3 calculates the address specifying the location in the area which can be seen most clearly from among the hierarchical area. A pattern address calculation section 4 calculate the address of the general texture in the present area according to the present view point corresponding to the location of the calculation object of the address calculation section 3 and calculates the level of the degree of detail of the general texture which can be seen from the view point. Thus the memory content corresponding to the hierarchical area can be read out.
