PURPOSE:To enable the effective cooling of a plane light source and to reduce the outside diameter size thereof by extending a refrigerant chamber to above or below the plane light source. CONSTITUTION:A window 3 is formed on the front surface of a cooling unit 2 in tight contact with the front surface and top surface of the plane light source 1. Many cooling fins 4 and a connecting parts 5 connecting the front edges thereof are successively provided in the upper part of the cooling unit 2. A thin part 6 connected from the upper edge of the window 3 is provided on the front surface of the connecting part 5. Front glass 7 covering the window 3 and the thin part 6 is fitted to the front surface of the cooling unit 2, by which the refrigerant chamber 8 packed with a refrigerant is formed among the front glass 7 and the front surface of the plane light source 1 and the thin part 6. The refrigerant chamber 8 extends above the plane light source 1 which is not directly heated by the plane light source 1 and, therefore, convection is sufficiently generated in the refrigerant chamber 8. Then, the heat on the front surface of the plane light source 1 is carried to the part extended above the refrigerant chamber 8 and is dissipated therefrom to the outside. |
