PURPOSE:To select an optimum syntax pattern matching a state by utilizing layout information when translation by plural syntax patterns can be performed. CONSTITUTION:Type information which is made into electronic data by an input means 10 is temporarily stored in a text storage means 20. Two-dimensional layout information on the input text is stored here and analyzed by a layout analyzing means 30. There are a heading or title, plural character strings and paragraphs, item parts, etc., as a typical example of layout and a converting means 40 converts the layout information into the syntax conversion rule of a translation object language. For example, a subject and a verb sentence appearing in, for example, a technical manual sentence are translated as instruction statements first in the item part. The priority order of the generation syntax pattern like this is sent to a syntax generation rule storage means 50. A generating means 70 translates the text into the object language according to the grammar and dictionary information of the input text obtained by a text analyzing means 60 and destination syntax pattern selection information. |
