PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the laser from an energy excited by discharge by providing a pair of dielectric materials having the projected areas at the sides facing each other within a discharge bulb filled with a gas as the laser medium and impressing an AC voltage from the AC power supply to a metal electrode provided therein. CONSTITUTION:A pair of dielectric materials 2a, 2b are provided opposed to each other within a discharge bulb filled with a gas as the laser medium and metal electrodes 3a, 3b are respectively buried in such dielectric materials. The surfaces opposed to each other of the dielectric materials 2a, 2b are formed flat and projections 10a to 10d are provided in the side of discharge gap at the external circumference of the metal electrodes 3a, 3b. In the external side, the gap between the dielectric materials 2a, 2b provided opposed to each other is gradually opened to form the smooth curved or straight section. Therefore, electrical field distribution at the surfaces of dielectric materials 2a, 2b becomes intense in the proximity to the metal electrodes 3a, 3b and also becomes coarse in the other region. Accordingly, discharge can be limited only to be generated in the proximity of the metal electrodes 3a, 3b. |
