PURPOSE:To establish an optical signal delaying method, which provides variable delay time for signal light and offers sersatile usage giving the desired delay time even with changing bit rate of the signal light. CONSTITUTION:Signal light Hs of a wavelength lambdas and control light Hc of wavelength lambdac having such an electric field intensity as generating the optical Kerr effect are synthesized by a photo-coupler 3, and the resultant is delayed by an optical fiber 4 having a certain length L, wherefrom signal light Hs solely is emitted as the output using a wavelength filter 5. The delay time of this signal light Hs in the optical fiber 4 can be changed by changing the power, etc., of the light source such as semiconductor laser, etc., to lead to changing of the electric field intensity of the control light Hc. |
