<p>PURPOSE:To easily and surely read a bar code regardless of the longitudinal directional of the bar code by providing a cross-shaped slit which converges light from a light emitting element so as to make it cross-shaped in a light collecting means. CONSTITUTION:The cross-shaped slit 7 is provided on the same optical axis as that of the light emitting element 2 and a lens 4 inside a main body 1. When the bar code 6 is read by a reflective type photo-interrupter, the main body 1 is arranged on the bar code 6 and light is emitted by the light emitting element 2 and scanning is executed. At this time, light which is emitted from the light emitting element 2 is converged so as to be cross-shaped and the bar code 6 is irradiated in a cross shape with the lens 4. A light receiving element 5 receives the reflected light of light with which the bar code 6 is irradiated and changes the light into an output current. Though the light receiving element 5 receives the reflected light of the bar code which is orthogonally crossed with the longitudinal direction of the bar code, the reflected light is extremely weak and can be disregarded. Then, the output current is converted into a pulse string and the bar code 6 is deciphered.</p> |
