PURPOSE:To provide a photomechanical process for a silver halide photosensitive planographic printing plate causing no defects by immersion development, capable of rapid processing, saving a soln., excellent in maintenance and capable of forming an extremely uniform printed image. CONSTITUTION:In a photomechanical process in which a silver halide photosensitive planographic printing plate is developed by coating with a developing soln. by a roll coating system, an elastic body 1c is brought into contact with the rear side of the printing plate P and the developing soln. is transferred by pressing the elastic body 1c against a coating roll 1b brought into contact with the photosensitive surface of the printing plate P from the rear side of the printing plate P.
