摘要 PURPOSE:To provide electrode structure which eliminates restrictions of plasma cell structure and enables stable plasma discharge. CONSTITUTION:This plasma electrooptical device is equipped with a liquid crystal cell substrate 4 which has plural signal electrodes 5 arranged in parallel to one another along a specific main surface, a plasma cell substrate 7 which has plural plasma electrodes arrayed in parallel to one another and crossed at right angles to the signal electrodes 5 and also wherein the plasma electrodes are arranged opposite the signal electrodes, a liquid crystal layer 6 interposed between both the substrates, and plasma chambers 8 which is formed between an intermediate plate 3 partitioning the liquid crystal layer 6 and the glass substrate 7 and wherein ionizable gas is charged. The gas is selectively ionized by discharge between the opposite wall surfaces of adjacent plasma electrodes, i.e., anode A and cathode K and discharge areas where the ionized gas is localized are regarded as scanning units to drive the liquid crystal layer 6 positioned at the intersection of the signal electrode 5 and discharge area. The height H of the plasma electrode wall surface is set preferably to >=100mum.
