<p>Compounds of general formula (I), wherein n is 0 or 1; R?1 and R2¿ each independently represents a group R, OR, NHR or NR¿2? in which the two R groups may be the same or different and wherein: R is -C1-8 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, -C2-8 alkenyl, -C3-8 cycloalkyl, C1-6 alkyl-O-C1-6 alkyl, -C1-8 alkyl(C3-8 cycloalkyl), phenyl, -C1-C6alkylphenyl, -C2-C6-alkenylphenyl, or R?1 and R2¿ together for a C¿2?-C6 alkyl bridge which may optionally be substituted at any position with a C1-4alkyl group; Y is CHOH, CHOQ where Q is a suitable protecting group or C=O; X represents any group which does not interact chemically or sterically with the group Y; are useful intermediates in the preparation of ketophosphonates and their derivatives and these, in turn, are useful synthetic intermediates for a variety of compounds, for example mevinic acid derivatives.</p> |
