A process is disclosed for destroying pollutants contained in waste waters. The current of waste water to be treated sequentially goes through the following process steps; treatment (1) of the current of waste water with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) (41) and simultaneous irradiation with UV light (2); treatment with a reducing agent (40) such as sodium dithionite; precipitating of the available metallic pollutants, if required followed by filtration (15) and/or a treatment with a selective ion exchanger (16, 17).
