(A) in a rotary wet classification process, a rotating bladed wheel (12) is arranged centrally in the rotating flow field which has, w.r.t. a common axis (2) with the wheel (12), an outer region (Ba), in which the liq. moves away from the wheel (12) with at least a component (ba2) parallel to the axis (Z), and an inner region (Bi), in which the liq. moves towards the wheel (12) with at least a component (biz) in the opposite direction parallel to the axis (Z). (B) appts. for carrying out the process is also claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful in wet grinding circuits, e.g. for prodn. of fine coating kaolin or desliming of finely aggregated ones. The classifier is inexpensive to mfr. and provides reliable classification of ultra-fine particles with high throughput and good sepn. capacity.
