A bulk material bridge (16) very often forms in a bulk material silo (11) with vertical walls, in which the lower part takes the form of a hopper (13) with a closable outlet, if the content of the silo is left untapped. This bridge (16), which is formed at the periphery of the hopper or in the upper part of this periphery prevents the material above it from flowing to the outlet when the latter is opened. In order to destroy such bridges, this kind of silo is to be fitted with at least one fillable and emptiable pressure cushion in the region acting as an abutment to the bridge (16). As, when the silo is emptied, the pressure ratios in a bridge which may have formed change, this has an effect on the pressure cushion acting as an abutment therefor, which is deformed to some extent, thus removing the support needed by the bridge, which then breaks. If this should not happen for any reason, the abutment can be removed from the material bridge (16) by emptying the cushion, thus causing the bridge to fall. |
