The ring (24) of widenable elastic material is fitted to a cylindrical component (38) such that it is pushed from bellows into a clamp. Then it is widened, axially clamped at its periphery, bought above the component, and released at its fastening joint. The fitting machine has a table (1) with a port guide (2) and a holder with downwards pointing retainers (22). Into the latter is insertable a spreading bolt (17).
