There are two or more thrust spindles (10, 11) bearing against a brake shoe (3). These screw into a thrust-piece (9), which is moved towards the disc (2) by turning a brake spindle (8) about its axis (B). A freewheel drive mechanism (18-23) couples the brake and thrust spindles together.An adjusting spindle (25) passes concentrically through a passage (16) in the brake spindle and forms a rotary coupling between the freewheel mechanism and the thrust spindles. The freewheel mechanism can be inside the passage, and the threads by which the thrust spindles screw into the thrust-piece can be of opposite pitch. There can be a right-angle gear drive (26, 29) between the adjusting spindle and each thrust spindle.
