Sealing strips and profiled sections are mfd. in a process involving direct polymerisation of a reactive mixute of ethylene unsaturated monomers and other ingredients. The reactive mixture is metered onto an endless circulating belt (16) with profiled cavities within which it is polymerised by microwave energy. Appts. for the process consists of: (i) a dispesner (10, 12, 14); (ii) an endless belt (16) with integral cavities; (iii) an ejector (26) for removing the polymerised product from the belt (16); (iv) a microwave generator (18) between the dispenser (10, 12, 14) and the ejector (26). Pref. the microwave energy (18) an be controlled by varying exposure time or strength and is the only energy required. Products are cooled immediately after polymerisation. USE/ADVANTAGE - For mfg. sealing strip or profiles directly from ethylene-based monomer. Simple operation and can produce a variety of cross-sections from a single monomer mixture.
