A process for preparing hexafluorochlorobutenes 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-chlorobutenes are obtained by pyrolysis of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2,2-dichloroethane. The hexafluoro-chlorobutenes obtained in this way can be converted into hexafluorobutane, a CFC substitute, by hydrogenation.
