The switch unit (10) has an actuator button (11) for manually starting electric devices in motor vehicles, esp. for electric rear window heaters in cars. A timed switch unit (12) is arranged on a carrier board and can be directly connected to the button (11). This switches on the device (13) for a predetermined time interval after actuation of the button (11). At the same time as the switch unit (12) switches on, a further switch unit (14) is switched on. This stays in its active state until the supply voltage line (15) is interrupted. The active state of the time switch (12) can be switched off before the end of the time interval by pressing the button (11) again. ADVANTAGES - Two different switching functions can be carried out. Can be built in the same space as known single function switches. Simple and inexpensive to manufacture and increases safety for vehicle and user.
