The disclosure describes a device (1) including a housing (11, 12) having an inlet (2) and an outlet (3) and defining a flow path for a liquid between the inlet (2) and the outlet (3). The flow path extends through a purification bed (17) which operates to remove substantial quantities of dissolved substances from the liquid. The purification bed (17) may include a plurality of separators (5) which act to increase the velocity of liquid flow through the purification bed (17). A filter may be located in and around the periphery of the housing (14, 15) and downstream from the purification bed. The filter (14, 15) is preferably pleated and has an absolute pore rating no greater than about 0.8 mu m to remove many microbiological organisms from the liquid. The disclosure further describes a method for manufacturing the device. |
