1,211,603. Temperature indicators. CANADIAN TECHNICAL TAPE Ltd. Nov. 14, 1968 [May 7, 1968], No.54059/68. Heading G1D. An indicator material for determining whether steam sterilization has been applied comprises a mixture of calcium sulphide and lead carbonate, the calcium sulphide decomposing about 120‹ C to form hydrogen sulphide which then reacts to produce block lead sulphide. The indicator material is preferably applied in diagonal stripes 19 on a tape having a base of paper, cloth or Mylar (Registered Trade Mark) on which the stripes 19 are printed and covered by a steam permeable but water insoluble layer e.g of a methacrylate or urea-formaldehyde resin. The opposite face of the tape may be provided with a pressure sensitive adhesive so that the tape may be easily applied to an article to be sterilized. The indicator material comprises are part by weight of lead carbonate to 0À5 to 2 parts of calcium sulphide, preferably equal parts by weight are used.
