A process for isolating alcohols from alcohol/water mixtures, comprising the reaction steps of stripping, adsorptive separation and, if desired, drying on molecular sieves, a process for preparing the adsorbents which can be employed for the adsorptive separation in the said process and are based on silicon dioxide, and the adsorbents obtainable by the preparation process, are described.
