PURPOSE:To obtain an artificial stone colored into black color or an arbitrary color by forming a carbon layer on the outer layer of sand, if necessary, further forming a pigment layer on the outer layer, adding a synthetic resin to the treated sand, and subsequently molding the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Foundry sand used in conventional foundry factories is employed as such as the sand 1. A binding agent (e.g. starch) is coated on the outer periphery 2 of the foundry sand and subsequently pyrolyzed to form a carbon layer 4 comprising carbon 3. The carbon sand 5 produced thus is mixed with a synthetic resin (e.g. thermoplastic resin or thermosetting resin such as a styrenic resin) 6 to adhesively bond a majority of the carbon sand 5 to each other. The bonded carbon sand 5 is wholly press-molded into a desired shape with a mold. The bonded carbon sand may be formed into a lump without using the mold and subsequently processed into a desired shape by a method such as an engraving method. If necessary, a pigment is adhesively bonded to the outer surface of the carbon sand 5, and the produced colored sand is formed into an artificial stone-like molding. When the carbon sand is passed through a pigment solution mixed with aluminum powder, etc., an artificial metal is formed. |
