<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform monodomain smectic phase by forming an orientation controlling film of a specified fluororesin on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A smetic liq. crystal 6 is sealed in the space between a pair of substrates 1 each having a transparent electrode 2 to produce a liq. crystal element. At this time, at least one of the substrates 1 has an orientation control ling film 3 of a fluororesin which can form a film by coating. A copolymer of a fluoroolefin with cyclohexylvinyl ether, alkylvinyl ether and hydro xyalkylvinyl ether or a copolymer of a fluoroolefin with other fluoroolefin having a carboxylic ester group may be used as the fluororesin. The fluororesin contains generally 40-60mol% fluoroolefin and 40-60mol% other monomer components.</p> |
