Cement, mortar, concrete with improved - water-absorption resistance

To increase the resistance against water absorption of cement, mortar, concrete or mixtures of soil with cement or quicklime they must be mixed with an aqueous dispersion of minimum 0.005% (pref. 0.05-5) (R2C.CO.O.CO.C(R)2 (I). HO.CO C(R)2.CO.OH (II). where at least one P = 6-16C alkenyl; others = H or 6-16C alkenyl, of an additive consisting of an alkenyl-succinic acid or which each alkenyl group has 6-16 C-atoms, or its water-soluble salt or anhydride. 1-3% CaCl2 is opt. added. The additives may be mixed with the cement, mortar etc. before use or may be applied to the outside of masonry after it has been hardened. When mixed with soil and cement or quicklime, the mixtures may be used in building, road-building, agriculture etc.
