PURPOSE:To stably produce an optical disk having excellent characteristics in high yield by forming the recording layer of a data recording medium from a cyanine dye having five methine chains each of which has 6-membered rings formed by trimethylene crosslinking groups at its 2- and 4-positions. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer of a data recording medium is formed from a cyanine dye represented by general formula I [wherein R<1> is an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group, Q<1> and Q<2> are a methylene group, L<1>, L<2>, L<3>, L<4> and L<5> are a methylene group, n is 1 or 0, m is 0 or 1, Z<1> is an atomic group necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring along with N<+>=(L<2>-L<3>)n=C and Z<2> is an atomic group necessary for forming 5- or 6-membered nitrogen -containing heterocyclic ring along with C=(L<4>-L<5>)n=N]. |
