PURPOSE:To always accurately detect a thickness of paper sheet, etc., by correcting the amount of eccentricity of a reference roller, using a displacement signal of a detection roller during a specified time from a time when paper sheet, etc., such as bills, etc., has entered and a displacement signal of it after a specified time. CONSTITUTION:When a bill is guided at a contact section of a reference roller with a detection roller by a transfer belt, and the detection roller 2 is raised upward from a reference plane by an amount of paper sheet thickness, a displacement signal according to the amount of rise is output from an angle sensor 3. Then, when it is detected by a timing sensor 9 at a time A that the bill has entered the contact section, the displacement signal is sampled for a specified time, and stored in a storing section 8. Also a time from the time A to a time A' corresponding to the amount of one rotation of the reference roller is measured by a timer 10 and, after the time is up, data on the displacement signal at each time held in the storing section 8 are called successively in a calculation section 11 and corrected based on the present displacement data to obtain the thickness of the bill. |
