The invention provides the substantially optically pure 2(S)-stereoisomeric form of compounds of the formulae: <IMAGE> (I) and <IMAGE> (II) and the salts thereof, together with processes for their preparation. The compounds are intermediates for the preparation of antihypertensive agents.
