PURPOSE:To enable plural persons to simultaneously use the electronic reading machine without depending upon only human's vision by converting document data read out of a storage medium into a speech signal, and providing a speech output means which inputs the speech signal and outputs a speech. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 2 accesses the contents table area 18a of an IC card 18 through an I/F(interface circuit) 9 and processes the read data according to a specific program previously stored in a ROM(read-only memory) 3 to display the contents table data on the screen of a display part 7. The contents table data are displayed so that clauses correspond to pages of a book 15. Then, a user operates an operation part 6 to move a cursor displayed on the screen, thereby specifying a desired paragraph or clause. And the main body of the speech reading machine 1 is provided with a liquid crystal device(LCD) 20 for display and a speaker 13 which are included in a display part 7 and the document data are read aloud as a speech. |
