<p>PURPOSE:To provide a recording and reproducing device for which reproduced images are stable and picture quality is higher than heretofore. CONSTITUTION:Digital image data are encoded by applying basic data showing the basic features of images with a fixed data length and applying precise data showing detailed information with a variable data length at a high efficiency encoding circuit 3. The stable reproduced images are obtained by recording the basic data at a central part in the breadthwise direction of a magnetic tape, concerning the data sequence of the basic data, a synchronizing block is constituted with synchronizing signals, ID, basic data string and error correcting code, concerning the data of the precise data, a synchronizing block provided with synchronizing signals, precise data sequence and error correcting codes is constituted without adding any ID, therefore, the recording area of the precise data is enlarged, and picture quality is improved. At the time of normal reproducing, source images can be decoded by using signals from an ID generating circuit 17.</p> |
