PURPOSE:To enable the packaging of a surplus length part as compactly as possible by using a carbon coated fiber as an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The carbon coated fiber having a coating layer formed of a carbon thin film is used as the optical fiber 2. The carbon coated fiber is formed by coating the bare fiber of the optical fiber right after drawing with carbon by a pyrolysis method, etc., then applying an ordinary coating by a silicone resin, etc., thereon, thereby forming the optical fiber. The carbon coated fiber is used as the optical fiber 2 of the optical module in such a case, by which the winding of the surplus length part 4 of the optical fiber 2 in a coil form is enabled and the drastic reduction of the effective occupying area at the time of packaging the optical module is enabled. |
