PURPOSE:To protect individual's privacy and prevent misuse by ciphering and registering fingerprint information, and deciphering fingerprint information on an individual requested to be collated and then collating it with the registered information. CONSTITUTION:In fingerprint registering process operation, a fingerprint image of a finger placed on the prism of a fingerprint input device is picked up by a television camera and converted by an A/D converter into digital fingerprint image data, which are inputted to a control processor 2. Then a fingerprint feature extraction process part 21 performs a line thinning process to convert the data into fingerprint image data, and extracts feature points to generate original fingerprint information FP according to the extracted data. Then the fingerprint information FP is divided into plural blocks, which are sent to a ciphering process part 32 for a storage medium 3, so that a ciphered sentence is registered in a storage part 31. In collating process operation, the fingerprint information on the requested finger is similarly ciphered into a ciphered sentence. Thus, the fingerprint information is registered and collated in the ciphered state, so there is no danger of a leak. |
