PURPOSE:To enable the full-color image display of high accuracy, high number of picture elements and high speed by matrix driving by consisting a conductive base material of colored transparent conductive films which are colored with coloring materials and are commonly used as color filter layers. CONSTITUTION:A ferroelectric liquid crystal material 1 is held by a pair of conductive base materials 2, 3 constituted by forming electrode patterns 21, 31 on the surfaces of base materials and forming liquid crystal oriented films 23, 33 on these conductive surfaces. The electrode patterns 21 of the one conductive base material 2 of a pair of the conductive base materials 2, 3 are constituted of the colored transparent conductive films 21a to 21c which are formed by binding many transparent conductive particles with high-polymer binders, are colored with the coloring materials and are commonly used as the color filter layers. Then, the liquid crystal display element particularly having a large area and high image quality is inexpensively and easily produced according to the constitution; in addition, the colored transparent conductive films 21a to 21c are commonly used as the color filter layers and there is no need for separately forming the color filter layers and the color display is therefore made by the simple structure. |
