PURPOSE:To provide a secondary battery of a large discharge capacity by specifying a bulk density and a range of grain size distribution of carbon material used in a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode, using carbon material as active material, is moulded of carbon grains of a bulk density of 1.1g/cm<3> or less, and main grain size distribution in a range of 0.5-50mum mixed with binding agent. For a secondary battery having a negative electrode using carbon material as active material, and electrolytic liquid of alkali metallic salt dissolved in nonaqueous solvent, therefore, a discharge capacity of the negative electrode can be improved. Carbon grains preferably a pulverized matter of carbide having fibrous organization structure in which a bulk mesophase is disposed in layers in one direction. |
