The base valve (1) has an axially central beaker-like recess (3) opening towards the damping piston. The dia. of the recess is larger than the OD of the fastening nut holding the damping piston. The recess (3) is formed by a sleeve (6) which is closed towards the base cap. The base valve is supported on base cap by spring discs (18,19) of pressure step valve. The fastening nut moves right into the recess except for a slight safety distance. USE/ADVANTAGE - Dead length of vehicle damper is reduced by amt. nut is driven into recess.
