The protective cap is formed as a casing (1) open on both sides and in the protective position is pushable from the shaft rear end on to the shaft (6). In the protective position the rear part of the brush shaft (6) is not enclosed by the casing and the casing is further removable by being pushed onwards in the applied position. To secure the casing (1) in the protective position, jaws are provided, elastically engaging around the brush ferrule (7) and/or the thickened shaft area.
