Making curved glass fragment-type lamp shades - by soldering together double triangular shaped sections with blunt end forming polygon-shaped centre

Prodn. of a curved body made out of glass fragments, esp. for producing glass lamp shades, consists of cutting out glass sections (1) using flat patterns having a symmetrical triangular shape (2) about a central axis (3). The corner having the acute angle (4) is cut perpendicular to the axis (3) to form a blunt end. An uneven number of sections is placed together so that the cut sides (5) form a polygon and the bevelled edges of the sections have a reducing distance (9) between themselves towards the centre (6). The sides of the sections are stuck together by a copper strip before the polygon edges are soldered together with copper wire. By holding the wire in the gaps (9) the whole assembly can be raised upwards as the sides of the sections come together ready for soldering. ADVANTAGE - Avoids the use of a large model over which the glass sections would be held. A lamp shade of any shape and size can be produced.
