The coating composition is prepared by adding an acidic electroconductive material to the matured mixture of alkyl silicate and solvent just prior to coating process. The coating process comprises applying the prepared coating composition to outer surface of cathod ray tube pannel by spin coating and drying the coated layer. The solvent includes water and at least one compound selected from group consisting of alcohol, ketone and acetate. The process enables the production of antistatic, anti-dazzle outer coatings on cathode ray tubes.
