ORGANIC OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM WITH WHICH NON-DESTRUCTIVE READING OUT IS POSSIBLE AND OPTICAL RECORDING AND REPRODUCING METHOD USING THIS MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To lessen the deterioration in recorded information by incorporating a photochromic compd. having <=2.8 DOVA plot scale obtd. by scaling the amplitude of the extension and contraction vibrations of the bond contributing to a photoreaction on intramolecular coordinates into the above-mentioned recording medium. CONSTITUTION:This org. optical recording medium has an org. optical recording layer which changes its optical properties when irradiated with a light beam on a base. This org. optical recording layer contains the photochromic compd. which is changed to the light absorption pattern of a writing state by irradiation with writing light of a wavelength lambda1, is changed to the light absorption pattern of an erasing state by irradiation with erasing light of a wavelength lambda2 and has <=2.8 DOVA plot scale obtd. by scaling the amplitude of the extension and contraction vibrations of the bond contributing to the photoreaction on the intramolecular coordinates. Non- destructive reading out is enabled in such a case by executing reproduction by using the light of the wavelength longer than the wavelengths of the writing light and the erasing light. The deterioration in the recorded information is thus drastically lessened.
