PURPOSE:To provide an image reader in which continuity is attached on the gradient information of an edge extracted image and with simple circuit configuration. CONSTITUTION:First and second one-dimensional charge coupled device type image sensors (L1, L2) provided with first and second shift registers (SR1, SR2) which input the output of plural sensor cells (SC) arranged in line shape in parallel via transfer gates (G1, G2), respectively and shift them sequentially are arranged adjacently. Output in accordance with adjacent four picture elements are issued sequentially by superimposing from four floating gate amplifiers (FGAa-FGAd) connected to the two stages of the first and second shift registers (L1, L2) via floating gates (FGa-FGd), respectively. Density gradient information in a unit area comprised of the four picture elements is computed and outputted sequentially based on the output of those four floating gate amplifiers (FGAa-FGAd). |
