A support structure(11,12) for a heat exchanger(10) has a reinforced concrete foundation with a box spar(23) embedded in it for cooling. A base plate(34) is secured to the upper side of the foundation(17) by a series of anchor bolt(24,25) embedded in the concrete, and it has a central cylindrical recess formed in it. Within the recess is seated a lubricated plate, loosely held with in an annular shear ring(35) which is also secured by the anchor bolts.
